Sleep Apnea, Snoring, Narcolepsy, Insomnia and Other Sleep Disorders
Out of Town Patients

WE FACILITATE THE TIMELY CARE OF PATIENTS WHO COME FROM AFAR.

We see many patients who travel to our Center from distant states--in most cases, because sleep center evaluations near their homes had left them without effective treatment. In fact, during a typical recent two-month period, 37% of the new patients that turned to us for help had been evaluated at other sleep centers, only to be left untreated or inadequately treated--and 8% came from other states.

It is our goal to try to provide these individuals with answers and solutions for their difficulties, irrespective of the severity or complexity of their problems. We also believe in facilitating their visit and making their visit to our Center as effortless, enjoyable and productive as possible.

We obtain preliminary information and utilize such to be certain that important diagnostic procedures and examination by the Medical Director are pre-scheduled in advance of the patient's trip to Columbus.

OUR ASSESSMENT APPROACH FOR OUR OUT OF TOWN PATIENTS.

We tailor our assessments to the individual patient's needs, based upon their history.  We send patients preliminary questionnaires first. We require that they be completed and returned to us as soon as possible because serve as a helpful guide in planning the patient's evaluation.

We see patients from out of town for an initial office visit typically on a Monday or Tuesday.  We pre-schedule their overnight sleep recordings for that same night and the following night.  Two consecutive overnight recordings help ensure that our patients are not left without answers and effective treatment.

Many of our patients from distant states had been left untreated repeatedly at other sleep centers.
Why? Because they were only allowed one night of monitoring, during which they worried about whether they would be able to sleep in the testing environment--which led them to sleep less well than at home.
The result? No meaningful, valid conclusions could be drawn from their studies.
We feel strongly that whenever a physician is treating serious illnesses, it is important to do the job correctly. There is too much at stake to do otherwise.

Some patients require a multiple sleep latency test during the day following their second overnight recording, particularly if they may suffer from narcolepsy.  Other patients do not need more than the overnight recordings.

Our medical director then sees the patients in the office on the day after testing is complete to review the results and to discuss treatment strategies.

Hence, most out of town patients begin their evaluations at our Center on a Monday or Tuesday and are ready to return home no later than Thursday of the same week.

HOW QUICKLY CAN EVALUATIONS BE SCHEDULED?

We can usually get patients in for their assessments within a matter of weeks, and we ensure rapid provision of test results and institution of treatment.
We am troubled by the fact that at so many centers, patients are unable to get the results of their studies for months--during which time they remain at risk of complications.
